Growers Donate Produce to Third Annual Certified Master Chefs Benefit
Eight Colorado farms and orchards will donate fresh produce for the Third Annual Certified Master Chefs Benefit, a fundraising event to be held Aug. 12 in the gardens of the Governor’s Residence at the Boettcher Mansion. It will feature food prepared from Colorado agricultural products by Colorado’s finest chefs, alongside Certified Master Chefs from within and beyond the state. Proceeds will be split between the Governor’s Mansion Preservation Fund and the American Culinary Federation Colorado Chefs Association’s education fund.
All produce donors are members of the Colorado Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association (CFVGA), a partner in the benefit event. Donating sweet corn is Sakata Family Farms, Brighton; Pueblo Green Chile is DiSanti Farms, Pueblo; pears is Talbott’s Mountain Gold, Palisade; peaches is Talbott and Ela Family Farms, Hotchkiss; leaf lettuce and green beans is Petrocco Farms, Brighton; russet potatoes is Strohauer Farms, LaSalle; red and yellow onions is Fagerberg Farms, Eaton; and Sungold Cherry Tomatoes and cucumbers is Isabelle Farm, Lafayette; and watermelon, cantaloupe and honeydew is Hirakata Farms, Rocky Ford.
“CFVGA is very happy to be a part of this event, both because it will benefit worthy causes within our state and because we welcome the opportunity to showcase delicious, nutritious Colorado fruits and vegetables,” said Marilyn Bay Wentz, CFVGA executive director. “We are fortunate to live in a state that is home to four of the nation’s 68 Certified Master Chefs. I encourage the public to come out to this outstanding culinary event.”
Joan Brewster, executive director of the Colorado Chefs Association, a chapter of the American Culinary Federation, which is hosting the benefit, said: “We are pleased to partner with the Colorado Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association to offer our chefs and attendees some of the best and freshest produce available.”
The Third Annual Certified Master Chefs Benefit is Aug. 12, from 6-8pm at the governor’s residence, 400 E. 8th Ave., Denver, CO 80203. It is open to the public and costs $75 per person. Tickets and information are available at www.acfcoloradochefs.org or by calling 303-222-0057.
